Houston / Harris County Immigration Physicals

November 30, 2021

If you wish to become a citizen of the United States, you must have an immigration physical performed by a physician licensed by the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services. The doctors at Brookshire Family Practice have been licensed by this entity and are prepared to conduct your exam.

What should I bring to my medical exam?

  • Valid, government issued picture ID (e.g. driver’s license, passport, etc.)
  • Proof of any prior vaccinations
  • Completed I-693 (Required Immigration Form)
  • If needed, please bring an interpreter

What should I expect during my immigration physical?

  • Basic physical and mental status examinations
  • Blood Work – including a serologic blood test for Syphilis
  • Urine Test – which includes Neisseria Gonorrhea testing
  • Tuberculosis (TB) testing

Additionally, you will need a proof of vaccination indicating you have been vaccinated for Tetanus-Diphtheria Td (within the last 5 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox). If you do not have your vaccination records available, you will need to prove immunity via a Blood Titer test. This test proves that a person has immunity or antibodies for a particular disease.

The cost for any additional vaccinations is not included in the basic exam fee but can be included for an additional fee.

What happens after my exam?

Once the immigration medical exam is completed, your doctor will certify the I-693 form and place it, your test results and vaccination history in a sealed envelope for you to present to Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS). PLEASE DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE. If you open the envelope, your results will be null, and void and you will be required to undergo the exam again for an additional fee. We will provide a copy of your completed I-693 and blood test results for your records. The exam is valid for one year after your exam date.

How much will my exam cost and what’s included?

The cost for the immigration physical is $475 (fee does not include any necessary vaccinations) and includes the following:

  • Basic Immigration Medical Exam
  • IGRA (Tuberculosis) Test
  • Gonorrhea Test
  • Syphilis Test
  • Vaccination status verification
  • Copies of your laboratory results
  • Certified and Sealed I-693 Form
